Octopus NET SL-MC M4 Max - Unicast & Mulitcast [SPTS] Streaming Server with 4 tuners for DVB-S/S2/C/C2/T/T2 with optional Twin CI.
The Octopus NET SL-MC series is a SPTS Multicast Edition of the Digital Devices Octopus NET SL. The converting of DVB channels is done on IP basis in RTP and / or UDP format. Since firmware 2.10.3.0 unicast via RTSP is also available as an extended feature. Up to 12 TV channels from max. 4 transponders can be converted per server. For a higher conversion of channels, several Octopus NET MC models can be cascaded. The streaming of the individual TV channels takes place in the SPTS (Single Program Transport Stream) procedure, which provides a large compatibility to hardware as well as software clients. Through the integrated CI interfaces, a direct decryption of TV channels is possible. Per CI slot several channels of a transponder can be decrypted*.
From the channel search to the finished streams, the configuration is done exclusively through a password protected responsive WEB interface. In this way, systems can be completely remotely maintained. The multicast IP addresses as well as port and protocol (RTP/UDP) are freely definable. The integrated 5 port GigaBit switch ensures stable transmission in the network and sufficient capacity for streaming. The server is used for the distribution of DVB signals in professional installations and environments via RTP|UDP multicast as IPTV headend.
Proven technology in new design
The SL-MC series and the previous MC series use the same hardware components. The new housing offers more flexibility and passive cooling of the server, even in difficult environments. The Octopus NET mainboard, powered by a Linux OS, delivers a stable streaming engine through a powerful FPGA processor.
Each server comes with a 5 port Gigabit switch to allow additional devices to be added to your network. In addition, the switch can be used in multicast mode for controlled broadcasting of the streams (Stream on LAN Output), so that only certain ports allow certain streams.
Flexible, Modular and Interchangeable
Your Octopus NET is of course equipped with Digital Devices tuners, so if at a later date you find that other tuners or a larger number of tuners are needed, you can easily swap or replace the tuners of the server with a card of the "Max" series or "DuoFlex" series. This modular design allows you to remain flexible with regard to extensions, replacement of tuner hardware or conversion to other types of reception.
The tuners of Octopus NET SL-MC M4 Max
The tuners that power your Octopus NET SL M4 server are simply multi-talented. The Octopus NET has 4 tuners which can be used in the Server for the following types of reception:
- DVB-S (Satellite Tuner)
- DVB-S2 (Satellite Tuner)
- DVB-C (cable tuner)
- DVB-C2 (cable tuner)
- DVB-T (Terrestrial Tuner)
- DVB-T2 (Terrestrial Tuner)
Depending on the existing reception type, 4 tuners are available for this, which can be used for up to 12 streams in multicast or unicast. If you define channels, e.g. of a SAT transponder over a tuner, the three still free tuners are available to you for the same or also for other kinds of reception. Thus also mix configuration over different receipt kinds of up to 4 transponders are possible, without the investments in different receipt systems. If not only satellite but also cable TV is to be received at the location (e.g. for local stations), this is now easily possible with Octopus NET SL-MC M4 Max.
For the operation at a satellite system, you need with conventional star cabling for each used DVB-S tuner a line to Octopus NET SL-MC M4 Max, thus the tuners are fully DiSEqC capable. Also the use at Unicable¹ I (EN50494) and Unicable II/JESS² (EN50607) systems is possible without any problems. To supply the individual SAT tuners, the SAT inputs of the card are connected to the Unicable system using a Unicable splitter.
For the operation at a cable connection or terrestrial antenna, only one cable from the socket or antenna is necessary. The signal is distributed internally to the tuners, so no splitter or the like is needed.
Unicast streaming using RTSP
By using the RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) you additionally distribute the LiveTV signal in the network, no matter if SD, HD or UHD. In the unicast method, the number of simultaneously usable clients, according to the number of installed tuners.
CI support³
(Attention, only with above selected variant "With CI Support" Article number: 282054)
Due to the integrated CI support, encrypted streams can also be decrypted directly in the server in advance. The channels are assigned directly via the WEB interface to the two available CI slots. Several channels of a transponder can be linked via a CI, corresponding CA modules can decrypt several channels of a transponder.
*1 Unicable® Requirement: Unicable®/ SCR / CENELEC EN50494 compliant LNB or multiswitch according to EN50494
*2 JESS® Requirement: Jess®/ CENELEC EN50607 compliant LNB or multiswitch according to EN50607
*3 Decrypting multiple services from different transponders (MTD - Multi Transponder Decrypting) is not possible with Octopus NET systems. Decrypting multiple channels of a transponder (SDT - Single Transponder Decrypting) is possible.
