PCI Express Expander Backplane System
Expand the number of PCIe slots on a motherboard of your choice with our PCIe expansion technology. Simply place the included host adapter on a free PCI Express x4 slot of your mainboard. The counterpart, the so-called "Client adapter", is placed on the PCI Express backplane. Now connect the two controllers with help of the supplied data cables. The system is immediately ready for use. The backplane(s) has a transparent PCIe switch that transparently handles the communication between the PCIe devices and the host. No drivers are required and it works on all systems from Windows to MAC OS to Linux.
PCI Express Backplane - Case #4 - Expandio Enclosure
"Case #4" provides space for 19 x PCIe slots (14 of them full length) in a rugged 19" case.
The client adapter, which is placed on the upstream port of a backplane, connects to the host adapter on a free PCIe slot of the host system (e.g. 19" 1U server maiboard).
Cable lengths of 0.8 - 5m are possible.
The 650 Watt SFX power supply is designed for continuous operation (24/7).
Four 80 mm fans provide optimal cooling, even with full card assembly and use in harsh industrial environments.
Your selected expansion stage:
PCI Express GEN2 | 6x Expansion Slots - Backplanes & Hostcontroller | Case #4
Please note: 1x free PCIe Express x4 slots are required on the used mainboard.
In this variant, the scope of delivery consists of the following components:
- Case #4 - Expandio Short Case
- 650Watt SFX-PSU
- 1x Backplane PCIe Gen2 - 6 fold
- 1x Set 200cm data cable
- 1x Client adapter* (Place on backplane for uplink)
- 1x Host adapter* (Placement on mainboard)
- 4x Case fan 80mm
*Client / host adapters can be used for internal as well as external (to another housing). For this purpose, the adapter can be switched from internal to external by means of a jumper setting. For a connection to another housing other cable lengths are available, please contact us for this.

A host adapter – plugged into a free PCIe slot in the host PC/system (Gen2 or Gen3) – is connected to the backplane via the client adapter.
The host adapter supports 4 PCIe Gen3 lines which are connected to the client adapter via 2 Mini Display port cables (2 lines each). A jumper can be used to select whether the cabling is inside (e.g., Case #2) or outside (Case #3, Case #4) of a case.
With original cables, the length does not have to be adjusted.
With Digital Devices cables, the optimal setting in the host and client adapters is done automatically.
Cable lengths from 0.5 – 7.0 m are possible.
There is a Low Profile and a Full Profile slot bracket available.
